Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions regarding smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

1. How many smoke detectors do I need?

Answer:   Install in this priority and that should tell you how many you need to install

Outside every bedroom

One on every floor

Top of stairways.

2.  Where should I avoid installing smoke detectors

Answer:Kitchens, Bathrooms and any place dust and fumes are likely to be normal.

3.  How often should I change my smoke detectors battery?

Answer:  Every 6 months or when you change your clocks in spring and fall.

4.  What is Carbon Monoxide?

Answer:  Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that is produced from heaters, fireplaces,
furnaces, and many types of appliances and cooking devices. It can also be produced
from vehicles that are idling

5. Where should CO devices be installed in homes?

Answer:  CO devices should be installed outside each sleeping areas of the home including the
basement. The manufacturer’s installation instruction should also be followed.
